No money, no problem

It’s the beginning of the semester so you’re still telling yourself you’ll actually “broaden your mind” and “take advantage of the city” and everything else your mom told you to do when she first saw the tuition bill. Sounds great except that it’s so damn cold and you’re so damn lazy. Solution? Arts editor Madysen Luebke brings you awesome, interesting things to do without (really) leaving the bubble.

Thursday:

• Miller Theatre is back with the latest installment of the Bach Series, Saariaho + Bach.  If you’re feeling brave, walk those three blocks over to Miller Thursday, February 7th at 8pm with your $7 CU student ticket.

Friday:

• Want to procrastinate your homework or just get out of the Morningside bubble?  This Friday at 2pm Columbia Music Professor Susan Boynton is leading a tour of the Cloisters.  It’s free with CUID, just let them know you’re going.

Saturday:

• The Apollo Theatre is turning 80 this weekend, and they’re having a free open house weekend!  Doors open at 12:30pm for a show that you will not forget featuring dancers from the Harlem Swing Society, Doo-Wop from from Winter Wonderland’s Acapella Soul, and cast members from the musical Motown.  Did I mention it’s free?
• Be sure to stop by Furnald this Saturday at 8pm to see performances by LyricLion, a  Columbia group dedicated to showcasing the work of student composers.  It’s free, and there will be fancy food.
• Come celebrate the launch of the sixth issue of “Double Exposure,” Columbia’s Undergraduate Film Journal!  Stop by Lerner 569 at 8pm to grab a copy and watch some short films made by fellow Columbians.

Tuesday:

• Miller Theatre is shaking up your week with a free pop-up concert Tuesday at 6pm.  For this concert, Ensemble Signal will present an assortment of their favorite solo pieces, including a few US premieres, to make us feel special.
