Stickers with phone numbers for the Rape Crisis Center and Psychological Services, intended for the back of CUIDs, will be available today in Lerner from 5:00pm to 6:00pm.
These stickers are the result of efforts made by Lauren Cardenas, SEAS’16, and the SIC Community Health House. Realizing that mental health facilities and rape crisis resources were not included among the emergency information on the back of student IDs, Lauren has been working since this summer with the Community Health House to organize the order of stickers.
Fitting perfectly on the back of ID cards, there are plenty of stickers available; Res Life has funded the order for 8,000 stickers, which fit on the blank space on the back of the IDs.
Plans are in place to distribute the stickers through CPS, Kent, and Go Ask Alice!, but in the meantime they are available at the Community Health House and at events like today’s. Stickers were also distributed to RAs on Tuesday.
While currently available only to students with a CUID, the stickers should eventually be printed with Barnard numbers and for GS students. The ultimate goal of Lauren and the Community Health House is to have these numbers printed on the backs of IDs for future classes.

@Splooge Drenched Blowjob Queen Nothing hotter than a Rape hotline. Sign me up!
@BC '16 Thank you Sister Lauren for your advocacy. We at NRT are proud of the accomplishments of our sisters in their advocacy against rape culture. As a board member of NRT I can assure you that this (while an important step) is just the beginning. We have to change the way people look at their interactions with each other. Change the incentives to rape. Increase the incentives to report abuse. Empower women and people of color and the LGBT community. While I have been asked by my fellow sisters not to disclose too much of the soon to be released policy platform endorsed by the University, I can ensure you that it will include mandatory role-reversal programming and shifted burden of proof (instead of placing the burden on victims it will be the assailants who will have to prove their innocence). Thank you again Sister Lauren, we celebrate your accomplishment and hope to see more accomplishments like this from all our members.
@Lauren SEAS'16 To address your concerns:
There are current 5,569 traditional undergraduates at Columbia (CC + SEAS). We have 8,000 stickers available. These extra stickers are available for Barnard and GS. However, some things to keep in mind:
1. Barnard students: The number for the Rape Crisis Center/SVR is the same for both Columbia and Barnard students. However, the psychological services across Columbia and Barnard do not share the same contact information. If you call Columbia Psychological Services, in hope of contacting the Furman Center, you will be redirected appropriately. We hope to remediate this mismatch in the future. Our current initiative is a “test run” and is sponsored by Res. Life at Columbia. If this movement is successful, you can expect Barnard specific resource stickers coming your way!
2. General Studies Students: Information regarding SVR and CPS is the same as that of CC and SEAS. Because this initiative was sponsored by Res. Life, and because most GS students have independent housing, GS distribution becomes rather difficult. However, these resource stickers are available to you and are intended for your use as well (Please see below).
Of course, these problems will no longer be an issue, if and when Columbia prints these resource numbers on all CUIDs. These stickers are intended for all CUID holders, we are not discriminating its distribution.
Where you can find them:
– At specific distribution events. Last night, we held an event at Lerner.
– At the Columbia Community Health House (also known as CHH): EC Townhouse H604
– From a CHH resident
– At the following dormitory halls: Furnald, Carman, EC, West Campus, McBain, Broadway, Hartley/Wallach, John Jay, Schapiro, Wein, and Brownstones.
Next week: These stickers will be made available through PanHell, I-House, and Q-House
In the future: We hope to make them available at CPS, SVR, Columbia Health Services, AskAlice!, CSA, and Kent.
Long term goals: Have all CUIDs printed with these numbers.
@BSGS Thanks for the reply Lauren, especially for the clarity. It is greatly appreciated.
Have you thought about distributing some of the stickers through GS student life as well? Their offices are right next to our lounge in Lewisohn, and I’m sure Jawad or Sean would gladly jump right on board with this effort.
@Anonymous GS students? Same ID?
@BSGS Those are our numbers too… ? We have CUIDs. Wut?
@BC '15 Those are not “our numbers” too. Those are the numbers for CPS. There aren’t currently stickers with the info for Furman, which is for Barnard.
@BSGS Come on, GS is in my name. I obviously spoke on behalf of GSers.
