Did you miss all the fun cheer last night? The ever peppy Ross Chapman has a roundup of the Mania of last night.
Fans filled the second floor lobby of the Dodge Fitness Center an hour before the event began. The entirety of Levien’s western bleachers became packed with students. The first 100 fans got glorious free t-shirts. And yes, as promised, the Cupid Shuffle, the Cha-Cha Slide, and Wobble Baby all made appearances at this year’s Basketball Mania. It’s everything we wished for and more. If you weren’t there (or if you were there and just had so much fun you forgot the boring details), here are the main points to bring home from Mania.
- Columbia can dance! The Columbia University Dance Team, Onyx, Venom, Raw Elementz, and the Columbia University Step Team all put on great performances. Look for them around campus, and see the Dance Team at basketball games.
- The Columbia basketball teams can also dance! Check your Snapchat stories, because the men danced to “Ms. New Booty” and the women had their coaches (of varying ages) tear down the house.
- Music! The Columbia University Marching band serenaded the crowd with the usual selection of tunes, and the Voltage drumline did more marching with the band when they had time on the floor.
- The first home basketball games on the season are Tuesday, November 18th at 7 PM for the men against Wagner and Wednesday, November 19th at 7 PM for the women versus Lafayette. The first 100 fans to the Lafayette game get free t-shirts. Columbia wants you to have free things!
