Just enough to get you through your p-set

Just enough to get you through your p-set

Still can’t retake that seat in 209 that someone camper stole from you by forceful revolt, even though it’s yours by divine right? Exiled from Butler for your egregious studying habits? Heh…you win some, you lose some. But don’t despair! There are still a bunch of places you can lay claim to and stake out for the next week. The only disadvantage? Your loyal subjects like to go home at some reasonable hour, so you’ll have to abdicate your throne every night. But go establish your domain around campus, or in this case, on campus!

Joe: Second floor, Northwest Corner Building

  • Wifi: Regular Columbia WiFi
  • Outlets: Few, only at the edges of the seating area—the ones by the non-glassy wall are also unusable because people queue up there when it gets busy.
  • How much do they hate campers? Not at all as far as I can tell—especially later in the day
  • Space: People who say that there is no space at Joe are lying—I’ve literally never not found a spot. You just have to go sit with somebody else and make friends with them! Alternatively you can be really annoying and make them leave.
  • Number of people: Busy, especially on weekends
  • Food quality: Great! Especially the oatmeal, soups, and cookies
  • Price: Fairly expensive
  • Background music: Literally always Beach House—except when it’s terrible dubstep or Christmas songs
  • Noise level: Fairly moderate
  • Bathrooms: Big and very clean
  • Atmosphere: Casual

Brad’s Brew: Between Furnald and Journalism

  • Wifi: Regular Columbia WiFi
  • Outlets: Several, on the left wall
  • How much do they hate campers? Not at all
  • Space: Usually there should be a free table. When there isn’t a free table, however, I wouldn’t necessarily sit down with a stranger—that doesn’t seem to be a big thing at Brad’s.
  • Number of people: Reasonable
  • Food quality: Pretty good! The sandwiches are okay and there is a lot of variety!
  • Price: Very reasonable for Columbia
  • Background music: Haven’t noticed anything distinct
  • Noise level: Very low
  • Bathrooms: Annoying. You either have to go into the basement of Journalism or into Furnald.
  • Atmosphere: Pretty casual. There is a fairly even mix of people working and people just having food.
