No, not that type of party.

No, not that type of party.

President Obama is (perhaps) partying it up in Havana today. It’s the first time since 1928 that a sitting American President has visited the nation. Despite cordial rhetoric, “disruptive elements” within the nation have been detained or dispersed before the President’s visit. (NYT)

The party might be over in Brazil in short order. Their Congress’ lower house initiated impeachment proceedings against Dilma Rousseff, the current President. Her appointment of her predecessor, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, as her chief of staff—allegedly in order to fend off a corruption probe—does not help her case. (National Review)

It seems the various members of the European Union toed the party line in regards to Turkey over the weekend. In exchange for €6 billion, accelerated accession talks, and access to the Schengen zone starting from June, Turkey will work with the EU to hold refugees and take back those taken from people smugglers. (Chicago Tribune)

The pot party continues. The Supreme Court dismissed an effort from Nebraska and Oklahoma to declare Colorado’s marijuana legalization unconstitutional. This was the legal equivalent of the police dismissing your nosy neighbour for reporting you on account of a joint, though Justices Thomas and Alito would have heard the lawsuit. (CBS)
