Mmmmmmmm

Surprise, surprise! We just received news from Shake Shack HQ that their Columbia location (where Ollie’s used to be on 116th and Broadway) will be opening this Wednesday, August 23rd at 11am–just in time for OL move-in. We’re already craving the cheese fries, and you know we’ll be there Wednesday night.

We do wonder how Shake Shack will fair against JJ’s–how late will they stay open? Will they take Flex dollars? Despite its obvious lower quality, JJ’s is on the meal plan and now open 24/7. Perhaps the opening of Shake Shack will evenly distribute burger-seekers between the two–those JJ’s lines can be brutal.

You can read Shake Shack’s full press release below (which also details what the neighborhood-specific concretes are!!):

NEW YORK, NY – Aug 21, 2017 – Rule the school! Shake Shack is opening its doors in Morningside Heights on August 23rd at 11AM. The Shack will be located at 2957 Broadway on the corner of Broadway & W. 116th St., steps away from Barnard College and Columbia University.

Shake Shack is a critically acclaimed, modern day “roadside” burger stand known for its 100% all-natural Angus beef burgers and chicken sandwiches (no added hormones or antibiotics – ever), griddled flat-top dogs, fresh-made frozen custard, crispy crinkle cut fries, beer, wine and more. A fun and lively community gathering place with widespread appeal, Shake Shack has earned a cult-like following around the world.

In addition to the Shack classics, the Morningside Heights Shack will be spinning up a selection of local frozen custard concretes: Heights Bites (vanilla custard, frosted butter cake from Make My Cake and salted caramel sauce), Shack Attack® (chocolate custard, fudge sauce, chocolate truffle cookie dough and Mast Brothers Shake Shack dark chocolate chunks, topped with chocolate sprinkles) and Pie Oh My (vanilla custard and a slice of Four & Twenty Blackbirds seasonal pie).

Guests can wash their burgers down with local brews from Montauk Brewing Company and Sixpoint Brewery in addition to Shake Shack’s exclusive Brooklyn Brewery ShackMeister® Ale. Wine lovers can enjoy a glass of Shack RedTM and Shack WhiteTM wine from Napa-based Frog’s Leap Winery.

The Shack will open with the Shack App, allowing guests to order Shake Shack exactly when they want it, right from their phone. With the Shack App, guests can select their food, choose an available pickup time and it will be cooked-to-order and timed to their arrival.

As part of Shake Shack’s mission to Stand For Something Good®, the Morningside Heights Shack will donate 5% of sales from its Pie Oh My concrete to The Fresh Air Fund, a nonprofit that provides free summer experiences to New York City children from low-income communities.

In keeping with Shake Shack’s commitment to green architecture and eco-friendly construction, the Morningside Heights Shack is constructed with recycled and sustainable materials. Tabletops are made by CounterEvolution using reclaimed bowling alley lanes; chairs are designed by Uhuru using sustainable materials; booths are crafted by Staach using lumber certified by the Forest Stewardship Council; and walls are clad with reclaimed redwood from NYC water towers.
