Happening in the World: Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau fired Canada’s ambassador to China, John McCallum, following a bout of controversy McCallum caused on Tuesday when he argued that the U.S. should drop its extradition request for Huawei’s chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou, who is currently detained in Canada. Happening in the US: As the nation recovers, legislation is being pushed to prevent future shutdowns. One bill, headed by Senator Mark Warner (Virginia, D) is nicknamed the Stop Stupidity Act, just to show the extent of opposition. Over the next three weeks, lawmakers from both parties will be pressing forward with this. (NYT)

Happening in NYC: A giant floating LED billboard continues to irk lower Manhattanites as it broadcasts ads along the Hudson. The Battle of the Barge, so it goes, raises fears of a river-turned-Times-Square, and it doesn’t seem to have an end despite increasing complaints and threats of legal action. (Gothamist)
