A new independent publication has announced its intent to cover Columbia’s campus, headed and run by former Columbia Daily Spectator Sports staff writers who quit along with nearly their entire department last December following a dispute over the Spectator’s new board selection process.

The Change-Up launched its website today with an announcement post from its Editor-in-Chief, former Spec Sports writer Ethan DeLehman. DeLehman notes that the website currently has eighteen staff members. Several of these staffers, such as Zachary Miller, Madeline Covino, Dunia Habboosh, Sophia De Peña, and Henry Schwartz have previously written for Spec Sports.

The website launched with four sections: Sports, Culture, Essays, and Photo. They also claim to be producing five podcasts which will be launched over the next several weeks, with the first three episodes of their first podcast, DormStories, available now. Meanwhile, Spec has published only two stories in its sports section since the start of the semester.

Given that the domain was only registered on January 30th, clearly a large amount of work has been put into this project in a short time. Time will tell if they follow through on their goals, but don’t worry, Bwog will always be here serving you sports and culture… and news and events coverage and free food and humor and comments sections and everything else.
