Exactly what it sounds like: reviews of rooftops or other restricted tall areas around campus and Morningside that Bwog has accessed. Standard disclaimer: you’re like not supposed to do this yourself or whatever.

Great views and looking down on others are two things that people generally agree are fun, and ascending to the top of tall buildings is a great way to do both at once! But why settle for just the top floor and having your sightlines limited by whatever window situation is present when you can risk life and limb to one-up everyone by going up to the roof or other restricted areas above that? Bwog has done this a number of times, and here’s our feedback on some local rooftop areas.

Hamilton: in addition to going through Hamilton 8 to access the building’s roof, you can climb out the windows on Hamilton 6 onto a balcony/ledge thing and get some great views of campus!

Butler: The Butler roof will give you some nice views of Midtown (facing south) or campus, where on a nice day you can chuckle at the swarms of seals on Low Beach as they ignorantly wallow in the sun, unaware of what they’re missing out on.

Beta: Several Bwoggers have made expeditions at one point or another to Beta’s roof at one time or another. We shan’t say more about this one.

Pupin: Climbing out the astronomy lounge window will get you onto Pupin’s roof. Extra points if you climb up the telescope thingy and scare the shit out of some astronomers.

John Jay: As you might guess, based off the sheer height and steep angle of John Jay’s roof, this is not the safest. Bwog advises against any roof access or entry to restricted areas, but this one is a particularly bad bet if ending up as John Jay polenta is not one of your life’s ambitions.

Mudd: Mudd’s imposing height and good positioning mean that its roof has particularly breathtaking sunrise views.

UTS tower: Inside the UTS courtyard, you can climb to the top of one of the church tower things, which has a spectacular view of Riverside Church right across the street, and pretty nice views of NoCo, Manhattanville, and Harlem/Queens.

NoCo: Technically, Bwog has not gone to NoCo’s roof, but we have gone through some restricted doors on the 14th story to areas where they’re doing some sort of renovation or construction. The views of campus, Midtown, and Harlem/Queens are excellent, and you have nice sturdy windows between you and the outside to make sure you don’t end up as a fresh protein shake for the athletes far below in Dodge.
