As the world reckons with Coronavirus, many places are wondering when things can start returning to normal and New York makes a decision about their primaries.
Happening in the World: India has begun to loosen lockdown restrictions in many districts with few cases, but many citizens are hesitant to go outside, choosing to stay put with families and in their homes rather than risk infection. Efforts to reopen the country slowly have extended from plantations and construction work to small businesses outside of major outbreak hotspots, but time will tell whether or not these efforts are accepted or rejected by the country’s citizens. Happening in the US: Many states are beginning reopening at the White House’s urging. States such as Texas and Ohio have begun to slacken stay-at-home orders, some even looking at bringing students back to school before the end of the academic year. This comes despite the urging of many medical experts to make sure efforts to reopen don’t come too soon. (New York Times)
Happening in New York: New York’s June primary has been cancelled, largely due to presidential candidate Joe Biden running uncontested after Sanders suspended his campaign earlier this month. Questions have arisen how to divide up delegates between both Biden and Sanders, as while Sanders has stopped campaigning, he still plans to be at the DNC in order to push for many policies in his progressive platform. Joshcore Album of the Week: This week while yearning for the city, I’ve been listening to “Worry,” a pop-punk masterpiece by Brooklynite Jeff Rosenstock. “Worry” has long been an album on my radar, but hasn’t been one I was so heavily in tune with until recently. If you feel the need to reminisce about shitty parties getting shut down way too early and the commodification of the working class, give it a listen.
