These truckers are really showing off…
Happening in the World: Truckers are still blocking the Ambassador Bridge in Canada, a crucial trade link between Ontario and Michigan. The blockade, which has lasted roughly a week, has caused auto makers to lose roughly $600 million. Last night, a Canadian court ruled that the tuckers must leave the bridge or face criminal charges. However, the truckers continue to stand their ground and law enforcement has yet to step in. (BBC)
Happening in the US: The State Department has ordered all but a “Core Team” of diplomats to leave the American Embassy in Ukraine, in the face of a mounting Russian military presence at three sides of the Ukraine border. US intelligence has reportedly heard chatter that Russia is planning to invade Ukraine as early as next Wednesday. President Biden plans to speak with President Putin today in hopes of deescalating the situation. (NYT)
Happening in NYC: The Willoughby Avenue Open Street, which runs for eight blocks in Fort Greene and Clinton Hill and is closed to all vehicles for 24 hours a day, was briefly reopened to traffic yesterday after an order from City Hall. Soon after, however, City Councilwoman Crystal Hudson, who represents the district of the open street, made calls to the Department of Transportation to restore Willoughby Avenue to an open street. The street is now open once again! (Gothamist)
