Help us hold the site together with visuals!

Is Bwog your go-to Barnumbia news source, but you find yourself cringing whenever you see our pixelated header images? Do you have strong opinions about Bwog Blue (#3a5479ff) and what we should replace it with? Are you looking at this post right now and critiquing all of the fundamental design flaws? Then join Bwog’s Illustration team and help us finally find an aesthetic!

Bwog Illustrators permeate every nook of our operations and add visual cohesion to our otherwise chaotic melee. No matter what your medium of choice is, there’s space for you at Bwog. If you paint or draw, then come and produce epic header images for the lewd, mind-boggling posts we publish. If photography is your passion, work with us so our events coverage can visually embody the electric energy on campus. If graphic design moves you, create graphics for our website and socials and take us out of the ’90s. And if I haven’t mentioned your medium, then take my job and expand the visual team!

To apply, answer the questions below and send your completed application to editors@bwog.com by 11:59 pm EST on Friday, September 16. Please send the application as a PDF entitled “[First Name] Fall 2022 Illustrator App.” Our new Fall 2022 Illustrators will be announced in advance of our next meeting on Sunday, September 18!

Honestly, we just want to see your passion and artistry, so take this application in whatever creative direction you want!

Fall 2022 Illustrator Application

About Bwog:

  • Visually portray what you think Bwog is.
  • Tell us about a header image you like and didn’t like, and why for both.
  • How do you think Bwog could improve from a visual perspective?

About you:

  • Why do you want to join Bwog?
  • What mediums and tools/software do you use?
  • Are you comfortable with the process of digitizing your work?
  • Provide up to three examples of your work from previous years.
  • Choose a building or statue on campus. Give a rough sketch or idea of how you’d capture it.

Question on commitment/other student news organizations:

  • It is Bwog policy that you cannot simultaneously be a member of Bwog and another student news organization on campus (such as Columbia Daily Spectator, The Blue & White, or The Federalist). You are allowed, however, to write for campus literary magazines and other, non-journalistic organizations. Do you understand that if you are accepted to Bwog and to another publication, you will be expected to only commit to one organization?

If you have questions regarding the application, feel free to email media@bwog.com at any time. Our Editors look forward to reading your applications!
