Developed at Oxford University, the vaccine showed efficacies up to 80% in an initial study. Moreover, the vaccine proves to be easily manufacturable, with potential production scales of 200 million annually. (The Economist)
Happening in the US: Michigan’s 1931 abortion ban was found unconstitutional by a Court of Claims judge. The existing law prohibited abortions, except in instances where it was needed to preserve a pregnant person’s life. The case, brought by Planned Parenthood Michigan, resulted in a permanent injunction preventing the attorney general and county prosecutors from enforcing the ban or its associated penalties. (ABC)
Happening in NYC: New Yorkers are no longer required to wear masks on public transportation effective immediately. Governor Kathy Hochul cited decreasing infection and hospitalization rates as the basis for reversing the mask mandate. Additionally, during the announcement, she encouraged New Yorkers to get the Omicron booster, arguing that it was the path to “not just a new normal, but a normal normal.” (CNBC)
