Love Bwog? Love web dev? We have a proposition for you!

From breaking news about the grad student strike to sitting in the Low Steps fountains, Bwog does it all! As Columbia’s #1 source for everything happening on campus, Bwog articles cover every possible facet of being a student here.

But all that great content has to go somewhere…aka the very website you’re currently reading. We are 100% published online, so what you see here is what you get. We’ve had a few different looks over the years, but we have always been a hub of student life. This site is a massive, living, breathing people’s history of Columbia—we’ve been posting since 2006—and maintaining it is a unique, interesting, complex project.

Bwog Tech is a small subset of Bwog that takes on the challenge. As a team, we improve the website and add new features, depending on the needs of both our audience and our staffers.

Who do we want? Frontend and backend web developers. Our team consists of a wide range of backgrounds, but some specific skills we are looking for (either one more multiple of the following): HTML, CSS, php, WordPress, server management, site optimization. If you’ve got skills not listed here, tell us about them! Above all else, we want people who are passionate and excited about web dev, and who are ready to come up with interesting, creative solutions to our website needs.

Why should you join? Well, besides the fact that Bwog is hot, we have a readership of 25k+ views per week. Here, you have the opportunity to create a site that is actually read by real people, with real consequences if the site is messed up, and a good amount of user feedback. We have projects in all aspects of web dev, so if you’re interested in it, we can make it happen. And then of course, as a member of Bwog Tech, you are also a full member of Bwog itself, with the option to write (if you so desire), and access to our great community of people.

To join Bwog Tech, answer the following questions, save them as a PDF titled “Firstname Lastname Tech App”, and send them to editors@bwog.com! Applications are due by 11:59 pm on September 16.

If you have further questions, feel free to contact tech@bwog.com. Our editors look forward to reading your applications!
