In most spaces I’ve been in at Columbia, telling people I like country music has resulted in a look of disgust and a question, asking me to explain myself, in a condescending tone. My belief is that people view country music as a space occupied by artists singing about beer and rednecks. 

This is certainly true, there’s no denying it.
