Applications for Daily Editors, Staff Writers, Illustrators, and Tech Team positions are due tonight, January 27 at 11:59 pm EST!

Want to join the bwody politic but haven’t gotten your applications in? Don’t worry—you have until tonight, January 27, at 11:59 pm EST to apply! During this Spring 2023 application season, Bwog is accepting applications for four positions: Daily Editors, Staff Writers, Illustrators, and Tech Team. Below is a little reminder of how each of the position fits into the greater blog body and their responsibilities.

Staff Writers are the blood, the soul, the heart, the brain, the everything of Bwog’s body politic. They write all of our articles!

Daily Editors are the hands, the nimble fingers, the strong arms, and the tender legs of Bwog’s body politic. They copy-edit and publish the articles you read.

Illustrators are the clothes, the bracelets, the ring, the accessories of Bwog’s body politic. They draw, paint, sculpt, photograph, graphic design, etc. all the accompanying visuals in Bwog articles as well as create visual articles of their own.

The Tech Team are the stem cells and immune system of Bwog’s body politic. They work on both the frontend and backend to keep Bwog’s website afloat, ironing out issues and making sure that all runs smoothly.

So if you’re interested in any position, please complete the application at the end of this article and email it to editors@bwog.com by 11:59 pm. Please submit your application as a PDF titled “[First Name] Spring 2023 App.” If you have any questions, email editors@bwog.com, DM our social media pages, or comment!

  • Come up with three sample post ideas that you would like to see on Bwog.
  • Represent Bwog visually (A Drawing, A Scribble, A Meme, etc.).

  • Why do you want to join Bwog?
  • You’re taking Bwog out on a date! What would you do? Where would you go? There are no limits!

Questions for Staff Writers:

  • What aspects of Columbia might you be interested in writing about?
  • In which building on or near campus would you most like to spend twelve hours?
  • In 50 words or less, tell us about your move-in this semester.

Questions for Daily Editors:

  • Send us a screenshot of the open tabs on your browser.
  • How do you manage your time and keep yourself organized? Are you able to dedicate one day per week to Bwog?

Questions commitment/other student news organizations:

  • It is Bwog policy that you cannot simultaneously be a member of Bwog and another student news organization on campus (such as Columbia Daily Spectator, The Blue & White, or The Federalist). You are allowed, however, to write for campus literary magazines and other, non-journalistic organizations. Do you understand that if you are accepted to Bwog and to another publication, you will be expected to only commit to one organization?
  • For Dailies: Because the commitment required for Dailying is greater than that of being a Staff Writer, if you are accepted as a Daily Editor, it is our expectation that you will Daily for the entirety of the upcoming semester. If you are also applying to other places of student journalism, and are not sure which is your preference, please indicate that here. Do you understand this expectation of commitment?
