Happening in the World: Four more people have been arrested in the wake of the assassination of Haiti President Jovenel Moise. President Moise was killed in his Port-au-Prince home in 2021. The arrest of these four men—all US residents, brings the total number of suspects in custody in the states to 11. The Department of Justice’s investigation suggests the involvement of these suspects in a plan to detain President Moise which was later abandoned in favor of his assassination. There are also more than 40 suspects in custody in Haiti, where the investigation has stalled due to the resignation of three judges over security concerns and the dismissal of a fourth. (BBC)
Happening in the US: Three students were killed and five wounded during a mass shooting at Michigan State University on Monday night. The shooting began around 8:30 pm in an academic building and the student union. An alert was sent out to students and a three-hour-long police search ensued. The chase ended miles from campus where the shooter, who had a previous gun violation, fatally shot himself in a confrontation with the police. Students and faculty were in the dark for hours after the shooting began, with incorrect updates about the situation causing confusion. In the days that have followed, many have come forward to speak about the situation and grieve the loss of their classmates. (AP)
Happening in NYC: The Department of Transportation is resisting a group of street safety bills proposed by City Council. These proposals include the installation of bollards on some sidewalks and crosswalks, safety signs on roads near schools, and reflective material on curbs near senior centers. Advocates for the advancement of street safety, including many family members and friends of those injured or killed while walking, cite the deaths of the 255 people killed last year by motorists in the city. The Department of Transportation’s pushback is mainly focused on a shortage of department workers, the price, and the ineffectiveness of similar measures in the past. (Gothamist)

@Anonymous Columbia needs a global center in Italy. Don’t understand why there isn’t one.
