India’s population, Tucker Carlson, NYC outdoor space, and more in today’s Bwoglines!

Happening in the World: The United Nations recently announced their official prediction that India will surpass China in population to become the most populous country in the world. The UN anticipates that India’s population will reach 1,425,775,850 individuals by the end of the month. Data shows that China’s birth rate has been decreasing and had recently begun to experience a net decrease in population. Despite the global population increasing, experts say that the growth rate is not as fast as it has been in the past and is in fact at its lowest rate since 1950. (BBC)

Happening in the US: On Monday, Fox News announced that Tucker Carlson, one of the network’s leading hosts, would be leaving the show. At the moment, Fox is not specifying the reasons behind Carlson’s departure, although many speculate that the decision originates from the network’s recent $800 million payment to Dominion Voting Systems in order to avoid a public trial. The network will be using guest hosts until they find a new anchor to fill Carlson’s position on Fox News Tonight. (NBC)

Happening in NYC: New York City’s Open Streets Program is officially returning to the city this summer! The initiative began during the pandemic in an attempt to create more space for New Yorkers to be outside. The program was highly popular at its conception and is now the largest in the country. The DOT announced in a tweet that this year’s Open Streets will include 160 locations over nearly 300 blocks. This means that the designated areas will periodically be off-limits to cars so that New Yorkers can use that space to enjoy the outdoors. (Gothamist)
