Happening in the US: The second Republican debate in Los Angeles saw candidates grappling with Donald Trump’s absence with many of the candidates launching attacks on former president Trump, resulting in a chaotic two-hour event marked by candidates talking over each other and the moderators. Moderators were criticized for their inability to maintain order, and the debate did little to change the dynamics of the race, with Trump maintaining a strong lead. (BBC)
Happening in NYC: The annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade has been canceled after 30 years due to administrative challenges and escalating costs. Organizers, led by Joseph Borduin, withdrew street closure applications after struggling to cover nearly $50,000 in permitting and insurance expenses after a park closure required them to relocate. Organizers expressed frustration with bureaucratic hurdles which led to the cancellation of the beloved canine competition. Despite hopes for a possible return this year, the parade’s future remains uncertain. (Gothamist)
