My favorite office on campus, the Barnard Registrar, decided my first name should be “Pm” in every portal and system. Here’s what I learned!
- When your name is changed through the Registrar, it is changed everywhere. Courseworks, swiping into buildings, the housing portal, etc. Everywhere.
- If this ever happens to you, you probably don’t want it to happen during the first week of classes.
- The Barnard Registrar is not open on Labor Day. Shoutout labor, though!
- When your name is “Pm,” it is a fabulous conversation starter.
- Also, people will laugh at you.
- “Pm” can be pronounced as “pmm” OR “P. M.” It’s always fun to see what people go with!
- People use your name way more often than you’d think.
- Somehow there is a way for a school’s registrar to accidentally change your name to “Pm”??? Impressive, honestly.
- When the Registrar finally changes your name back to Tal, it takes more days for it to re-update.
- Sometimes, the sweetest sound is hearing your name called correctly at attendance.
If you ever wake up as “Am,” I hope you’ll find these tips useful! Feel free to join the name change support group—you have an open invitation.
