My favorite office on campus, the Barnard Registrar, decided my first name should be “Pmin every portal and system. Here’s what I learned!

  1. When your name is changed through the Registrar, it is changed everywhere. Courseworks, swiping into buildings, the housing portal, etc. Everywhere.
  2. If this ever happens to you, you probably don’t want it to happen during the first week of classes.
  3. The Barnard Registrar is not open on Labor Day. Shoutout labor, though!
  4. When your name is “Pm,” it is a fabulous conversation starter.
  5. Also, people will laugh at you.
  6. “Pm” can be pronounced as “pmm” OR “P. M.” It’s always fun to see what people go with!
  7. People use your name way more often than you’d think.
  8. Somehow there is a way for a school’s registrar to accidentally change your name to “Pm”??? Impressive, honestly.
  9. When the Registrar finally changes your name back to Tal, it takes more days for it to re-update.
  10. Sometimes, the sweetest sound is hearing your name called correctly at attendance.

If you ever wake up as “Am,” I hope you’ll find these tips useful! Feel free to join the name change support group—you have an open invitation.
