On Wednesday, Columbia men’s tennis served up a win against Pepperdine, 4-2. The charge was led by Theo Winegar (CC ’24) and Michael Zheng (CC’26), who won the top doubles spot 6-4. Winegar and Zheng are now 9-1 this spring. Due to losses in the no. 2 and 3 spots, the Lions would need four singles wins, and fortunately, they delivered. Max Westphal (CC ’25), Hugo Hashimoto (CC ’25), Henry Ruger (CC ’24), and Michael Zheng took the Lions home for another victory, improving their record to 11-2 overall this season.
Women’s tennis also took home the win on Friday against Rice in Houston, TX. The match wins were in the no. 2 and 3 doubles spots and the no. 1, 2, 3, and 6 singles. The game was clinched by Anna Zheng (CC ’24) in the no. 2 doubles for a 4-1 win, bringing the Lions’ record to 11-3.
Columbia women’s basketball received an at-large berth (Bwog translation: an invitation) to the NCAA tournament for the first time IN PROGRAM HISTORY!!! On Wednesday, March 20, the Lions will play Vanderbilt in a first-four challenge. If they win, they will officially play in the March Madness round of 64. This will be Columbia’s third time playing Vanderbilt, having lost the past two times. The game will take place at Virginia Tech at 9 pm EST.
The Columbia men’s golf team finished in 13th place at the GCU invite on Wednesday. The charge was led by George Rubelsky (CC ’26), who shot an even-par 71, one point away from his career low of 70.
The 2024 NCAA Zone A Championships at Princeton University have concluded, and while no Lions qualified for the NCAA Championships, strong performances were recorded for both men and women. The two highest finishers were Joseph Nicol (CC ’26) and Macy Pine (CC ’25).
