Happening in the US: Marcellus Williams, convicted in 1998 for the killing of Lisha Gayle, was put to death despite the questions raised by his attorneys regarding jury selection at his trial and the handling of evidence in the case. Williams was the third Missouri inmate to be executed this year and the 100th since the state reinstated the death penalty in 1989. (AP)
