King Thutmose II’s tomb has been unearthed, the first pharaoh tomb to be discovered in over a century

Happening in the World: A team of British-Egyptian Egyptologists have unearthed the first pharaoh’s tomb since the discovery of Tutankhamun’s more than a century ago. The team was working in the Western Valleys of the Theban Necropolis when they discovered the burial chamber, which was located in a site commonly associated with the burial of royal women. It belonged to King Thutmose II, whose reign is roughly believed to have spanned from 1493 to 1479 BC, and was an ancestor of Tutankhamun. (BBC)

Happening in the US: In an executive order issued on Wednesday evening, President Donald Trump has moved to drastically downsize the Presidio Trust, a federal agency that oversees the iconic Presidio of San Francisco national park. The agency, which President Trump found to be an “unnecessary governmental entity,” helps to oversee the 1,500 acre park and all of its features: hiking trails, museums, campgrounds, schools, and even a hotel. This order effectively moves to downsize several other governmental agencies as well, including the United States Institute of Peace and the Inter-American Foundation. (NYT)

The 10-day notice for the strike was filed on Tuesday evening, allowing just over a week for negotiations to occur. (Gothamist)
