Russia and Ukraine have agreed to a naval ceasefire that will reopen an important trade route in the Black Sea.

Happening in the World: After individually making deals with the US, Russia and Ukraine have agreed on a naval ceasefire in the Black Sea. This naval ceasefire will allow for an important trade route to reopen, as both countries are large grain exporters. However, it will only be enacted once Russia’s food and fertilizer bands are lifted, so it is unclear exactly when the agreement will come into effect. (BBC)

Happening in the US: Yesterday, Donald Trump signed an executive order to overhaul US elections. This executive order requires that a person must have documentary proof of citizenship to be able to register to vote in federal elections and that all ballots must be received by Election Day. This order does not meet basic and necessary election protections and threatens to pull federal funding if election officials don’t abide by it. (AP)

Happening in NYC: Earlier this month, ICE sought to arrest Yunseo Chung, telling her that her status as a permanent US resident had been revoked. Chung, a pro-Palestinian protester at Columbia University whose arrest followed that of Mahmoud Khalil, filed a lawsuit against Trump’s administration on Monday. Yesterday, a federal judge issued a temporary restraining order against US ICE officials, preventing them from detaining Chung. (Gothamist)
