Yes, this happens every year. And yes, we always fall for it.

Enticed by the weather reports of highs of 50s and 60s last weekend, I, like many other Columbia students was persuaded to leave my puffer coat at home, perhaps even wear a T-shirt out. After an extremely cold January and most of February, it was a refreshing change to see students hanging out on the Low Steps and in Futter Field again.

Was Punxsutawney Phil wrong? Could this be the end of all the frigid wind and air? Was spring here for good? Well, the answer, as everyone quickly figured out when the temperatures dropped back down to 30 on Saturday night, was no. As sad as it is, spring wasn’t quite ready to make a permanent appearance.

This week, I brought back out the puffer coat, donned my multiple layers, and trudged through the biting cold to all my classes and activities. But hey, I’ll always have the memories of that beautifully enticing fake spring, and hopefully the real thing will come along soon.
