Happening in the World: At least 50 hippos have died from anthrax poisoning in Virunga National Park, the oldest national park in Africa. While the cause is still unknown, anthrax—though not easily spread—can be deadly and often infects animals through cuts or wounds. The Congolese Institute for the Conservation of Nature has advised residents to avoid wildlife and to boil their water before drinking. (BBC)

Happening in the US: Tensions between Peter Navarro and Elon Musk have escalated after Navarro publicly criticized Musk and his company, Tesla. Trump’s trade adviser Navarro claimed that Musk is “not a car manufacturer, he’s a car assembler” in a recent interview. In response, Musk posted on X, calling Navarro a “moron” and “dumber than a sack of bricks.” (BBC)

Happening in NYC: As of April 1, New York City property owners are required to separate organic waste from regular trash. Over 2,000 tickets have already been issued for violations just one week in. The sanitation department is doling out tickets starting at $25 for composting noncompliance. (Gothamist)
