Accountability and Influence Over the Taliban for Human Rights
- Tuesday, April 29, 4 to 6 pm, 1512 International Affairs Building.
- As part of a series titled “Beyond the Headlines: Overlooked Conflicts and Prospects for Peace,” this talk will focus on international relations strategies to influence the Taliban to uphold its agreement to honor the rights of women and inclusive governance. The event is hosted by the Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies and sponsored by the Institute for Social and Economic Research and Policy. Speakers include Associated Director of Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Stanford University Halima Kazem and Head of External Relations at the Pro-Republic Democratic Movement of Afghanistan Shahmahmood Miakhel.

Climate Knowledge, Science Skepticism, and White Supremacy in 20th-Century Southern Africa
- Wednesday, April 30, 4:30 to 6 pm, 513 Fayerweather Hall.
- In this talk, Professor Meredith McKittrick of Georgetown University will share an unexplored aspect of Apartheid in South Africa—climate science. Discussing the skepticism and knowledge of climate change, McKittrick will explain how white people ultimately set aside their disagreements in order to maintain a racially segregated and unjust society.
