Happening in the World: At a military parade in Beijing, a hot mic picked up Russia’s Vladimir Putin and China’s Xi Jinping discussing super-longevity and organ transplants. CCTV, the state broadcasting network, caught Putin’s translator suggesting in Chinese that human organs can continuously be transplanted, and therefore, you can achieve immortality. Off-camera, Xi can be heard responding that in this century, humans could live to be 150 years old. According to China’s radio and TV administration, CCTV’s coverage of the event was viewed 1.9 billion times online. (Reuters)

Kennedy Jr.’s decision to dismiss all 17 vaccine experts on the federal Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, California, Oregon, and Washington have announced a plan on Wednesday to form a “health alliance” to coordinate vaccine recommendations for the three states. The announcement raises several questions, such as whether insurance will cover vaccines recommended by the states but not by the federal government, and whether states could continue to require vaccines no longer recommended by the CDC.
