Happening off-Campus: In an executive order signed on Thursday, President Donald Trump has declared the sale of social media app Tik Tok ready in a deal valued at $14 billion. In January of 2025, President Trump delayed enforcement of a law banning the app in the United States unless its Chinese owners sold the platform to an American company. This executive order is paving the way for Tik Tok to fall under the control of US investors. (Reuters)
Happening near Campus: According to the National Association of Immigrant Judges union, at least six New York City immigration judges have been terminated from their positions in recent months. Since President Donald Trump’s return to the office in January 2025, over 80 immigration judges have been fired nationwide, many times without a provided reason. In New York City, these firings are coming amid a significant backlog of immigration court cases, with 3.8 million pending cases at the end of July. (Gothamist)
