Ring in the first weekend of the semester at tonight’s Silent Disco!

Happening in the World: The Paluel nuclear plant, France’s largest power plant, was disrupted by a swarm of jellyfish yesterday. The jellyfish entered the plant’s filtration system, leading to nearly half its power output being shut down. This disruption comes after a similar one in August of this year, when a “massive and unpredictable” swarm of jellyfish forced a different plant to temporarily shut down. (BBC)

Happening in the US: The District of Columbia announced a lawsuit against the Trump administration for the deployment of the National Guard as part of Trump’s law enforcement intervention plan. The city’s attorney general Brian Schwalb argues that the presence of troops in the city amounts to an “involuntary military occupation.” This lawsuit comes after a similar case in California, in which a federal judge ruled that the deployment of troops in Los Angeles in June was illegal. Happening in NYC: Tracks Raw Bar and Grill in Grand Central Madison opened on Monday, the first major retailer in the station. The iconic restaurant was previously open in Penn Station for two decades before closing in 2019. Commuters can now find the restaurant on the concourse level beside the ticketing and waiting areas. Happening in Our Community: As part of Welcome Week, a Silent Disco will be held on the South Lawn today starting at 7 pm. Students can grab headphones on a first-come first-serve basis and listen to music on the lawns, enjoy snacks, and meet new people. Registration is not required.
