Uzbek-Russian Trade Relations, 1991-2025

  • Thursday, September 11, 12 to 1:30 pm, IAB 1219 Marshall D. Shulman Seminar Room.
  • This talk, hosted by the Harriman Institute, will center on the trade relationship between Russia and Uzbekistan since the fall of the Soviet Union. Bakhtiyor A. Islamov, former Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and Ambassador to Russia and Belarus, will speak on his personal experience as a diplomat. The event will be moderated by Professor of Political Science Alexander Cooley.

ISSG Drag Performance Workshop

  • Thursday, September 11, 6 to 8 pm, Schermerhorn Extension 754.
  • In preparation for the Drag Ball on September 19 hosted by the Institute for the Study of Sexuality and Gender, this workshop will discuss the history and practice of drag and allow participants to practice their moves! The event will feature performers Theydy Bedbug and Issa Big Dragon.

In Defiance

  • Friday, September 12, 5:30 to 8:30 pm, Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center, #2.
  • In Defiance is a cultural celebration of resistance inspired by the centennial of Malcolm X’s birth. This event kicks off the Center for the Study of Social Difference’s program “Countering the Carceral State,” which takes an international look at crises of disciplinary enforcement. The program includes a tour of the Shabazz Center, a screening of a film essay by Professor Sohail Daulatzai of UC Irvine, and a performance by Vijay Iyer and Wadada Leo Smith.
