How an AI-Based Cardiovascular Screening Test Changed Care: A Million Results Later

  • The new mass onset of AI presents many interesting possibilities and challenges. This talk, hosted by the Department of Medical Humanities and Ethics, will demonstrate how the field of cardiology is transforming due to AI, as it allows a new large scale way to screen for structural heart disease. It will explore the ethical implications of this as algorithms can now recommend testing with potentially life-altering consequences. More information here.

Third Annual Faith Sommerfield Memorial Lecture: End of Life Care

  • The Masters of Bioethics Program will host Jennifer Senior, a Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist and bestselling author known for her writing on grief, and Dr. Arthur Caplan, Ph.D., an internationally renowned author on bioethics and the founding head of the Division of Medical Ethics at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. The discussion will focus on what end of life care looks like in the US, assessing the state of conversations around personal autonomy and the right to die with dignity. More information here.

BIPOC Climate Justice Summit: Power Shift

  • In person at the Diana Center Event Oval. Registration recommended.
  • This 5th annual summit will launch NYC Climate Week at Columbia. It convenes all types of experts, organizers, communities, and public servants to build collective power and advance aims related to climate justice. It promises an interesting array of events aiming to unite across sectors and organize global collaboration, including interactive booths. More information here.
