The NYC Village Halloween Parade is back for its 52nd year.

Happening off-Campus: The U.S. Senate adjourned on Thursday, continuing the government shutdown until at least Monday. With funding for food stamps under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) set to expire on Saturday, the extended shutdown will delay the SNAP benefits of 42 million Americans, leaving local food banks scrambling to prepare for an increase in demand. Happening near Campus: Tonight, the famous NYC Village Halloween Parade will return for its 52nd year. The “It’s a Potluck!”-themed parade will kick off at 7 pm; however, if you’re planning to see it in person, organizers suggest arriving earlier to beat the crowds. The parade will proceed along Sixth Avenue, starting at Canal Street and ending at 15th Street at around 11 pm. It will also be televised and streamed live at 8 pm on NY1.  (Gothamist)

Happening on Campus: Columbia’s Global Studies librarians will host an online workshop on international news sources today from 11 am to 12:30 pm. The workshop will cover historical and current news sources in multiple languages for research on Africa, the Middle East, East and South Asia, Eastern Europe and Russia, and Latin America and the Caribbean. Registration is required.
