Let’s go George!

Happening Off-campus: Madagascar’s President Andry Rajoelina announced a “national dialogue” after youth-led protests demanding his resignation over corruption, poverty, and power outages. The unrest, echoing recent “Gen Z” movements in Kenya and Nepal, is the island nation’s largest in years. Despite a cabinet reshuffle and new prime minister, tensions remain high. (Reuters)

Happening Near Campus: MTA Chair Janno Lieber slammed Amtrak on Monday for repeatedly delaying the Penn Access project, which will bring four new Metro-North stations to the Bronx and connect riders to Penn Station via the Hell Gate Bridge. Lieber accused Amtrak crews of “not showing up,” saying their no-shows have stalled construction and left Bronx residents “waiting for a goddamn train.” Amtrak denied the claims, calling Lieber’s comments “misinformation.” The $3.1 billion project, originally set to open in 2027, has now been pushed to at least 2028. Happening On-campus: Columbia’s Center for Teaching and Learning is hosting a virtual workshop on developing students’ critical AI literacy from 2 to 3 pm. Instructors will experiment with AI tools and explore ways to evaluate AI output in the classroom.

Field Note: I am so excited that George Russell won in Singapore this weekend, and I’m currently binging all of the post-race content.
