Cathedral Gardens is a wonderful place to live, and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else, but that walk will get you.

As much as I love living in Cathedral Gardens, as the weather gets colder, the walk from my dorm to class becomes more and more arduous. I often spend the time on my daily uphill walk thinking about all the things that I could be doing instead.

That list includes (but is not limited to):

  1. Watch one full episode of Jeopardy.
  2. Take a 20-minute nap.
  3. Wash the dishes.
  4. Watch 9.9% of the Academy Award-winning film, The Godfather Part II, starring Al Pacino and Robert De Niro.
  5. Scroll on TikTok.
  6. Make and eat a quesadilla, and then make and eat another quesadilla.
  7. Play all of the New York Times Games (depending on how skilled you are).
  8. Take the bus to the Trader Joe’s on 92nd and Columbus and buy some dark chocolate peanut butter cups.
  9. Walk to the ice rink in Central Park (did you know that there is an ice rink in Central Park, only an 11-minute walk away from Cathedral Gardens?)
  10. Ice skate in Central Park and fall and break your elbow.
  11. Count to 1,200 at a rate of one number per second.
  12. Cook a delicious portion of rice on the stove.
  13. Wait in line to get into New York City’s hottest club (JJ’s) at rush hour (midnight).
