When you move into East Campus, you expect a perfect life. Only that perfect life may be cut short when it comes with a missing couch.

My couch was moldy when I moved in. And, after a lot of back and forth with Housing, we finally had the couch removed from the suite.

Only, it took over almost two months for it to be removed. After my suite emailed the proof of visible stains in the couch (despite cleaning and treatment, and that Facilities themselves had commented on how bad it looked) on October 12, Housing responded that they will look into alternative methods on October 13. Finally, on October 22, we received a notification that our couch will be removed.

Email from Columbia Housing to tell us our couch would be removed on Wednesday, October 22, at 10:38 am.

The next day, we received an email detailing the removal process of our couch.

Email from Columbia Housing on Thursday, October 23, at 2:53 pm.

Thus, we decided to wait.

After a full month, we sent another email.

TLDR: “Hey! Please send an update or a receipt of proof that you ordered it.”

Also, a very important note is that many calls were also made to Housing at this time, where, each time, I had to explain the situation of the couch.

5 days after we sent the November 24 email, we received a message from Housing.

I am going crazy.

So, while we still search for a couch, we know we may never get said couch. I have no clue when we will get a couch. Despite this being a listed amenity in the suite, we have lacked a usable couch for literally the whole semester. I am infuriated.

Despite paying $13,222 EACH, no attempt has been made to partially refund our housing costs from this missing amenity, nor have a temporary couch.

I can’t handle this anymore. I just want a couch.
