Greatest book of all time. Editor’s warning: mention of death and ICE violence.
Happening off-Campus: Trump border czar Tom Homan said immigration enforcement in Minnesota could be reduced if state and local officials cooperate and protest-related interference declines. Speaking in Minneapolis after the fatal shooting of peaceful protester Alex Pretti, Homan stressed zero tolerance for assaults on or obstruction of federal officers. He acknowledged enforcement efforts haven’t been perfect but said the administration will continue its immigration crackdown and remain until the “problem’s gone.” Homan also urged jails to alert and transfer deportable inmates to ICE, saying targeted operations will focus on public safety threats. Happening near Campus: Mayor Zohran Mamdani blamed former Mayor Eric Adams and former Gov. Andrew Cuomo for decisions he says led to a $12 billion city budget gap. He called the situation a fiscal crisis and proposed raising taxes by 2% on the top 1% of New Yorkers and corporations to close it. Mamdani offered few details on spending cuts and said he does not expect to reduce funding for major agencies like the NYPD. Adams and Cuomo representatives disputed his claims, and a budget expert said the deficit figure reflects a worst-case scenario. (Gothamist)
