I guess everyone watches women’s sports. Editor’s warning: brief mention of death.
Happening off-Campus: US Vice President JD Vance attended the Winter Olympics in Milan with influencer Jake Paul as the US women’s hockey team defeated Finland 5-0. Vance arrived alongside his wife, Usha, and their daughter, Mirabel. Paul was also present to support his fiancée, Dutch speedskater Jutta Leerdam, who is competing at the Milan Cortina Games. The appearance marked Vance’s second time watching the US women’s hockey team at the Olympics, though players said they were unaware of the high-profile spectators during the game. (AP)
Happening near Campus: Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced emergency measures as extreme cold is expected to drive feels-like temperatures as low as 20 below zero this weekend. The city is opening warming centers in public schools, expanding shelter options, and deploying outreach teams, nurses and peer workers to move people indoors. Seventeen people have died outdoors during the ongoing cold snap, prompting an “all hands on deck” response and continued code blue conditions across New York City. (Gothamist)
