Happening off-Campus: In a surprising turn for the Men’s Figure Skating Free Skate, Ilia Malinin placed eighth after a series of slips. Mikhail Shaidorov of Kazakhstan won gold, the first in his country to win a gold medal in the Winter Olympics in over 30 years, and the only athlete not to fall in the final round. (BBC)

Happening near Campus: On Thursday, February 13, local officials and activists put up an LGBTQ+ flag at Stonewall days after federal officials had taken it down. Hundreds of people came to witness this event in Christopher Park in Greenwich Village, where the historic Stonewall Riots of 1969 took place. Under President Donald Trump, the Department of the Interior had ordered National Parks to fly only “U.S. flag, flags of the DOI, and the POW/MIA flag.” Said Jack Schlossberg, candidate for the 12th Congressional District seat in New York, “President Trump is using national landmarks and symbols to attack communities who have fought very hard for the civil rights that we all deserve.” (Gothamist)
