Bwog loves more daylight!

Happening off-campus: Blues legend Buddy Guy, now 89 years old, is gaining a wave of new fans thanks to his role in the Oscar-nominated film “Sinners”. The film, directed by Ryan Coogler, stars Michael B. Jordan as identical twins Smoke and Stack who return to 1932 Mississippi to open a juke joint in an old sawmill—only to have their opening night crashed by vampires. Coogler cast Guy as a personal tribute to his late uncle James, who regularly attended Guy’s performances. Guy won a Grammy this year for Best Traditional Blues Album, adding to his nine career Grammy wins. At 89, Guy shows no signs of slowing down and is planning a birthday tour that will kick off in Toronto after performances in Australia, continuing his mission to “make somebody smile.”  (Reuters)

Happening near campus: New York City will spring forward into daylight saving time on Sunday, March 9, 2026, so remember to set your clocks forward one hour at 2 am. The time change brings a welcome silver lining after a brutal winter: sunset will occur at 6:55 p., one hour later than the day before, and the sun won’t set before 6 pm again until October 26, 2026. This extra daylight offers relief for New Yorkers struggling with seasonal depression after months of cold temperatures and heavy snowfall. However, experts warn that the time change carries serious health risks, including an approximately 24% spike in heart attacks on the day clocks turn forward, along with increased risks of sleep deprivation and drowsy driving. Dr. Ana Krieger, director of the Center for Sleep Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine, recommends gradually adjusting your sleep pattern before the change—or, if that’s not possible, immediately shifting your daytime routine to the new time, getting light exposure after waking, staying active during the day, and avoiding electronic devices close to the new bedtime. (Gothamist)

Happening on-campus: This Tuesday, March 10 from 6:30 to 8:15 pm, join University Life’s second Find a Friend event in Earl Hall in the Dodge Room. Doors open at 3:30 PM for first-come, first-served seating. This laid-back community gathering welcomes all students interested in mystical exploration, including tarot, astrology, crystals, reiki, and aura reading. Attendees can participate in hands-on activities such as intentional sharing, exploring astrology books, designing their own tarot cards, reading tarot for themselves or others, and making crystal intention bags to connect with fellow students who share these interests. All students with their CUID are welcome on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last and until capacity is reached. You can find more information and register here.

Rewatching: I am just finishing up my rewatch of the phenomenal HBO classic, Girls, in an attempt to love New York again after this terribly frigid winter. In Lena Dunham’s world, apparently, there is no winter and they are somehow always dressed in shorts and tank tops and summer dresses. Or very often, not dressed at all! I love the first two seasons of Girls so much, it’s honestly peak TV.
