Happening off-campus: On Sunday March 8, 2026, Iran’s Assembly of Experts announced that the majority of its members voted to appoint Mojtaba Khamenei as Supreme Leader of Iran, former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s son. Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a joint U.S.-Israeli attack on Feburary 28, 2026, served as Supreme Leader from 1989 to 2026. U.S. President Donald Trump criticized the appointment, calling it an “unacceptable choice”. Experts worry that Khamenei could potentially pursue efforts to build a nuclear bomb. (New York Times)
Happening near campus: New Yorkers enjoyed a taste of spring on Sunday, March 8, 2026, as temperatures rose above 60s for the first time in months. Temperatures are expected to hover for the next few days until dipping back down into the 50s over the next couple of weeks. Despite the recent cold months, this year’s winter was only the 44th coldest winter in New York City record. (New York Times)
