Bwogger runs around Major Declaration Day at Nebula documenting what was said and seen!

I had been looking forward to finally declaring my major and getting to celebrate it in a club a couple of weeks prior to the Declaration Day event, and knew that documenting this one would be interesting, considering it forces Columbia students to talk about what they’re studying as they’re partying. Here are a couple of notable observations I wrote down while at Nebula.

  • “I’m cosplaying as a CC student.. I go to Barnard..” followed by, “What yall know about Locke and Hobbes?” This caused me to laugh while waiting in line annoyed, thank you Barnardian <3
  • “I saw the guy who was rizzing her up in the crowd.”
  • “Why is no one dancing..” This stood out to me because hundreds of people were dancing, so I was a little confused.. but that’s what made hearing this different from the other times I overhear it
  • “I’m too gay for this.” Real
  • “I hate my major, but I still wanna be here.” Heard this one as well in line, I feel for you
  • “If you’re a bad bitch put your hands up and leave your friends!” (???)
  • “Where can I find a group of econ majors?” I was and still am shocked that this was something someone wanted
  • “Name two roommates badder than us..” “Name two..” “Name two.” I approved this message..

Overseen:

  • Name tags for everyone to write their major on. So cute.
  • A giant message from Josef Sorrett (I think?) that no one could hear.. Which was kinda jarring
  • The most insane coat check line I’ve ever seen, which makes sense when I saw the most coats I’ve ever seen stuffed into couch cushions at a club later. (I stuffed mine as well, shoutout to those who waited in that line)
  • Half-full Bacardi bottle inside someone’s suit jacket.

Unfortunately, it was an extremely loud event, and I wasn’t quite as attentive as I could have been.. So I didn’t notice much. It was so much fun, though, and I am happy to have celebrated declaring a major that I know probably makes me seem insufferable!
