Celebrate Earth Day at Brushes and Botanicals with the Graduate Initiative!
Happening Off-Campus: In a bill approved by Parliament on Tuesday, Britain permanently banned the sale or supply of tobacco and vape products to anyone born in 2009 or after. In practice, the measure means that the age of sale for tobacco products will rise over time as the targeted demographic group grows older. The legislation also includes new licensing and registration requirements for retailers, production information mandates, advertising and promotion controls, and further restrictions on smoking in public spaces. This law will apply in England, Scotland, Wales, and North Ireland after the final formality of approval by King Charles III. (NYT)
Happening Near Campus: New York City’s first legal table games casino is set to open next week in Queens. Resorts World New York City announced that live table games are scheduled to begin April 28, pending final approval from the New York Gaming Commission following ongoing testing. This marks a historic milestone for the city and follows the casino’s recent selection as one of three city gaming locations. State leaders, including Kathy Hochul, say the expansion of casino gaming could generate billions in tax revenue to support transit and education, while creating thousands of jobs. (CBS News)
Happening On Campus: In honor of Earth Day, the Graduate Initiative is hosting Brushes & Botanicals, a hands-on art and plant-care workshop. At this event you can paint your own mini succulent pot, learn beginner-friendly plant care tips, and pot a succulent to take home. The event will take place in 201 Kent Hall from 4:30 to 6 pm. All students are welcome. Registration is required, but walk-ins will be admitted as space allows. Register here.
