Happening off-Campus: Scientists have discovered an extremely large crater on the moon that is bigger than the Roman Colosseum. The crater is the result of an impact two years ago that went undetected. The crater has been named for the late Thomas McGetchin, who was the former director of Houston’s Lunar and Planetary Institute. Happening near Campus: A mechanical failure in Meadowlands, New Jersey, caused 5,000 gallons of diesel fuel from a date center to spill into a nearby creek. Equinix, the company that operates the data center, has expressed its regrets and added that a report on the incident is still being finalized. Equinix and its contractor Clean Harbors are working to contain the spill and clean it up. The spill has caused concerns from local environmental groups who worry that the fuel will affect the greater ecosystem. (Gothamist)
