In honor of Earth week, we thought we’d provide you with some drinks that are easy on the environment…and/or that are just green. (If nothing else, they can double as St. Patrick’s Day drinks, because we all know that’s a day with a shortage of alcohol.) Although it’s kind of hard to say which drinks might have a lower carbon footprint—except, apparently, for the fact that we should all switch to boxed wine—there are a few organic/environmentally responsible brands out there.
1) Uinta’s Wyld Extra Pale Ale
Organic beers are the obvious choice for the environmentally conscious. Though you may have to venture to Fairway to get it, Uinta’s Wyld is a very good light beer. If beer can taste like sunshine, this one does.
2) Bison’s Chocolate Stout
One of the best dark beers, regardless of Earth-healthiness. Made with chocolate and espresso flavors, and no pesticides. It does not taste like a bison.
3) Green Mojito
- 10 fresh mint leaves
- 1/2 lime
- Sugar, to taste
- 1 1/2 oz light rum (organic, if you like)
- 1/2 cup club soda
- Green food coloring
Place mint leaves in a glass and crush them slightly to release the flavor. Squeeze in the lime juice, and add the rum and then the club soda. Stir in sugar and green food coloring.
4) Green Gummy Bears
- 3 oz vodka (organic version)
- Green gummy bears
Soak gummy bears in the alcohol for a few hours, or a few minutes, or really however long you feel like waiting. Once they’ve absorbed some of the alcohol, drink the rest as a shot and eat the gummy bears as a chaser.
5) Green-tini
- 1.5 oz gin (again, organic is an option)
- 1 oz vermouth
- 1 oz 99 Apples
- Kiwi slices
Mix alcohols in a glass, and add kiwi slices as a garnish.
