Can today mark the beginning of the end of the Yemeni civil war which has raged for over a year? The Yemeni government attempted to meet yesterday for peace talks with the Houthi rebels, though the Houthi delegation apparently didn’t show. The Iran-backed Houthis have suffered terribly from airstrikes led by the pro-government, Saudi-directed coalition. Any deal would reinforce the precarious ceasefire which has been established since the 11th. (NYT)

The end is nigh for Marissa Mayer, Yahoo’s boss since 2012. She was hired then to reestablish the foundering internet firm, though she hasn’t produced much in terms of results. Yahoo is now up for sale, with major bids from Verizon and Daily Mail General Trust taking the front stage. Most likely, neither firm will deign to keep Mayer around. (LA Times)

Oil prices ended their rally yesterday after a producers’ meeting in Doha failed to agree on anything. The situation is dire enough that even non-OPEC Russia was in attendance—though Iran, also a non-OPEC country, stayed away so that it might expand its share of the oil market. Brent crude was down 7% yesterday, and WTI is under $40 per barrel at opening today; bad news for oil countries. (Reuters)
