Sulz Tower appears phallic, doesn’t it?

For this round of housing reviews, we take you back to your earliest Barnard days in the quad. Remember how fantastic it felt to have AC if you were in Sulz your first year? It’s like that, but better.

Location: The Barnard Quad, 3009 Broadway

  • Nearby dorms: The rest of the Quad (Hewitt, Reid, Brooks, and Sulzberger), the 600s

  • Double: $9,510
  • Single: $11,038

Amenities:

  • Bathrooms: One gender-inclusive shared bathroom per floor, cleaned daily by facilities, with 3 showers, 2 toilets, and 3 sinks

  • Laundry: 5 washers and 6 dryers on the 8th floor of Sulzberger, with 2 of each on all floors 2-7. None in the tower.
  • Gym: No, but the Barnard Gym is located in the basement of the adjacent Barnard Hall.
  • Intra-transportation: 2 fairly quick elevators service only the basement, lobby, and floors 8-17, which means you don’t have to compete with the hordes of first years; 2 stairwells.

  • 96 Singles, 110-158 sq. ft., with most around 110

Numbers: Almost exclusively seniors with good numbers.

Bwog recommendation:

If you like good views, being close to campus, and suite-like living without the hassle of cleaning your own bathroom, Sulzberger Tower should be at the top of your list. Similarly, Sulz tower is perfect if you like not having to leave the building to get to music practice rooms, computer rooms, and all the resources in the quad basement. However, tight hallways and fairly small communal spaces are definite considerations.

Resident opinions:

  • “Living in the tower has been a great way to end my time at Barnard. If you move in with a group of friends, you can create a homey space in a convenient campus spot with beautiful views.”
  • “Honestly, the view is the best part of living in the tower. We have a gorgeous view of the city and the Hudson from our rooms and our kitchen, and it’s probably the best view of the city I’ll ever have.”
  • “I like being on campus and close to my classes but still removed from FYF so it’s a pretty nice location.”
  • “The double is also a good size! We each have our own clear side, and the room lets a lot of light in.”
  • “One drawback is that the lights themselves are not particularly bright.”
