Today marks the beginning of the three-day long Academic Freedom Week, an event held by groups such as Columbia University Apartheid Divest, Student-Worker Solidarity, Barnard Columbia Socialists, and more. The purpose of the events, according to them, is to “bring together a range of academics and activists who have been, because of their ideas and activism, assailed and silenced by universities across the country.” By giving these professors a platform, they hope to “call attention to the ongoing attempts to destroy academic freedom and help chart out new ways to defend an outspoken, progressive politics.”
Below is the schedule of the events planned for the Academic Freedom Week:
Monday, April 9: On The Palestinian Exception, Northwest Corner 501, 7:00 – 9:00 PM
Tuesday, April 10: White Supremacy in Academia, Lehman Auditorium, 6:00 – 8:00 PM
Wednesday, April 11: Academic Antifascism, 301 Pupin, 7:10 – 9:10 PM
More information regarding these events can be found on their Facebook here.

@absolute and utter anti semitism This entire charade is a thinly veiled attempt to self-victimize and self-immolate a poisonous, toxic academic belief based philosophically in anti-semitism and financially in anti-semitic, Middle Eastern organizations (e.g. SJP is funded by Muslim Brotherhood. This is a fact.) The MESAAS department is a huge repository of anti-semitic thought. These professors are actively indoctrinating students at Columbia to conflate the Jewish desire to not be genocided (again…) with white ethno-nationalism (which was the exact belief that genocided them in the first place). This is stupid, unacademic, Orwellian drivel.
@Yossi Hertz A year ago pro-Palestinian students at Columbia University attempted to shout down Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, when he spoke on campus.
Now, as they advance their anti-Semitic agenda, they have the temerity to claim they stand for academic freedom. What gross hypocrisy.
@Kenneth Waltzer Sad joke. Bring together partisans for Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions, which seeks to diminish academic freedom of faculty and students, so they can complain that their academic freedom is endangered and they can play the victim.
