Happening in the World: Pope Francis continues to uphold his progressive image within the Catholic Church with his most recent announcement on Tuesday. The Pope acknowledged, for the first time, the sexual abuse endured by nuns at the hands of the church’s priests and bishops. While the process of prosecuting sexual offenders has begun, Francis stated he believed there was much more to be done, especially in terms of changing the culture of the church. (NY Times)
Happening in the US: Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf implemented new regulations for State Police officers regarding unlawful searches and detentions. Pennsylvania Police offers allegedly sent more Hispanic immigrants to the state’s ICE field office than any other state in the country, raising concern over racial profiling (US News). According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the new regulations forbid officers from checking to see if passengers are undocumented immigrants and from detaining them if they are illegal.
Happening in NYC: The L train was suspended between Brooklyn and Manhattan yesterday after two passengers fainted from pungent fumes. Workers noted an “unknown substance bubbling up at a Brooklyn station” (Business Insider).
